Medibank ditches supplier over offshoring of data

Medibank Health Solutions has dropped Luxottica Retail Australia as its optical services provider for the Department of Defence.

Luxottica, which owns OPSM, was awarded the $33.5 million contract in 2012 to provide services to 80,000 Defence personnel.

Medibank says it terminated the contract after it a regular review process this month found Luxottica allowed client information to be stored offshore.

Medibank asked Luxottica to undertake a more comprehensive review, which showed all records of personnel receiving optical services had been sent overseas.
